about

A compilation of short songs made for and inspired by the short animated documentary, The Emerald Jewel Wasp, written and animated by the fantastic Liza Friedman.

**album artwork by Liza Friedman**altered a bit by Sunshine**

Those who only see beauty in the world have not yet met the female emerald jewel wasp.

- - After the mating ritual of the emerald jewel wasp, the female takes her newly fertilized egg on a quest to find a new home for it. Through her flight, she spots a great possibility; a cockroach. She quickly greets this cockroach with aggressive maneuvers and finds a good spot to sting the cockroach beneath it's hardened exterior. This sting contains a venom that paralyzes the cockroach's front legs, allowing the fruitful jewel wasp to make an even more precise sting directly to the cockroach's brain. This sting, however, contains an entirely different venom which basically turns the cockroach into a living, breathing cadaver.
- - With the cockroach incapacitated, the female creates a burrow and leads the cockroach into it. She controls the cockroach's direction by pulling on its antennae, while also sucking a little blood out for energy lost during the battle. The cockroach is fully compliant with her wishes.
- - At the burrow, the female lays her egg on top of the unconscious cockroach. She leaves, knowing that nature will make the larva begin eating. As it east, it burrows itself into the cockroach, making it's home for a few nights while it feasts. Soon enough, the cockroach is nothing but an empty husk, and out from it emerges another emerald jewel wasp, ready to continue the cycle.

Only tracks 2 and 4 are featured in the film. The rest were inspirations while attempting to score for the film.
